Strategic areas of our work

Peace, Human Rights and Democracy

Democracy and Human Rights

Democracy and Human Rights Protects civic space, promotes electoral justice, and advances fundamental rights in Mozambique through applied research, strategic public interest litigation, and direct legal aid across the country. This pillar also anchors CDD's work on transitional justice, advancing truth, accountability, and reconciliation as the foundation for lasting democratic trust.

Economic Justice and Accountability

Economic Justice and Accountability Advances natural resource governance and economic governance in Mozambique, with a focus on critical minerals, artisanal mining, business and human rights, and the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights. This pillar also promotes youth economic empowerment through engagement, dialogue, and empowerment as its core pathways for transformative change.

Rights, Resources and Responsibility

Community Peace and Security

To reduce the factors that drive violence and strengthen local and regional mechanisms for prevention, protection, and social recovery through rights-centered and justice-based approaches.

Business and Human Rights

To ensure that private economic activity — especially in critical mineral value chains and large-scale projects — respects human rights, generates equitable local benefits, and is subject to effective accountability mechanisms, in accordance with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) and the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR).
